CD Plates for iPhone

Privacy Policy

This policy explains the information processed when you use CD Plates, including app analytics, sightings, advertising and purchases.

Effective 23 July 2026

Overview

CD Plates is designed to work without asking for your name, email address or phone number during ordinary app use. The app does create pseudonymous identifiers so that features, usage measurement and abuse prevention can work. Pseudonymous means the data is not labelled with your real-world identity by default, but it is not the same as fully anonymous data.

We use information to operate the app, maintain the diplomatic plate database, understand which features are useful, provide sightings and statistics, prevent misuse, process Plus access and improve reliability.

Information processed

App profile and identifiers
A randomly generated app user ID and installation ID, a user code, selected country, avatar selection, app preferences and Plus status.
Usage information
Lookups, result counts, screens opened, plate details viewed, feature interactions, game activity, selected settings and purchase-flow events.
Sightings
Plate codes, associated country or organisation codes and the time a sighting was logged. Sightings are stored on your device and may be synchronised to support history and aggregate community statistics.
Technical information
App version, device and operating-system information, network information, crash data, diagnostics and similar reliability signals generated by the app platform and integrated services.
Campaign interactions
When a sponsored placement is shown or opened, the app records an impression or tap against that campaign. Advertisers receive aggregate campaign totals, not your app profile.

Recent searches and some preferences are stored locally on your device. Removing the app generally removes locally stored app information, subject to iOS backup behaviour.

Advertising for free users

The free version may display adverts supplied by Google and sponsored placements selected by CD Plates. When Google advertising is available, Google may process information such as device or app identifiers, IP address, approximate location, advert impressions and interactions, and diagnostic information. The exact processing depends on your device settings, region and privacy choices.

Where required, the app uses a consent form before requesting Google adverts and provides access to privacy choices in the app. You can also control tracking and advertising permissions through iOS settings.

CD Plates Plus

Plus subscribers do not see Google adverts or sponsored placements in CD Plates. The app may still process ordinary pseudonymous usage events, feature interactions, sightings, purchase-related events and diagnostics to provide the service, understand app performance and improve reliability.

Plus purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. CD Plates receives entitlement and transaction-status information needed to unlock or restore Plus, but does not receive your full payment-card details. Apple handles purchase information under its App Store privacy terms.

Service providers and disclosure

Information is processed only where needed to operate and improve CD Plates. The main categories of recipients are:

Google
For advertising, privacy choices, usage measurement and related diagnostics.
Cloud infrastructure
For the app database, pseudonymous profiles, campaign delivery, usage events and synchronised sightings.
Apple
For app distribution, purchases, subscriptions, refunds and platform-level diagnostics.

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information where required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards.

Retention and security

Server-side usage, profile and sighting records are retained for as long as reasonably needed to provide app features, maintain aggregate statistics, investigate abuse and improve the service. Records may be aggregated or de-identified when individual-level detail is no longer needed.

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Your choices and rights

Advertising choices
Use the privacy options shown in CD Plates where available, and review Tracking and Apple Advertising controls in iOS Settings.
Local history
Delete individual sightings in the app or remove the app to clear locally stored information, subject to device backups.
Plus
Manage or cancel a subscription through your Apple ID subscription settings. Lifetime purchases can be restored through the app.
Privacy requests
You may request access, correction or deletion where applicable. Because records are pseudonymous, we may need your app user code or installation details to locate them.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the app, its data practices or legal requirements change. The effective date above will be revised when a new version is published.
